Kannur Corporation to launch online septic tank cleaning booking system

Kannur Corporation plans to launch an online booking and tracking system for septic tank cleaning services in the next two weeks and will be the first local body in the state to implement such a system.
Mayor P. Indira said the service will be available on demand to all residents within the Corporation’s jurisdiction, including apartments and other residential complexes requiring septic tank cleaning.
“The main aim of the initiative is to ensure that faecal sludge reaches the treatment plant instead of being dumped illegally into water bodies, thereby reducing water pollution and environmental pollution,” he said.
“The platform will enable residents within the Company limits to book authorized septic tank cleaning vehicles online, make digital payments, receive SMS-based booking confirmations and tokens, and transport the collected fecal sludge to the Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant for scientific processing,” a senior company official said. Hindu.
He said the system aims to regulate private sludge removal operators, prevent illegal dumping of sewage into drains and bodies of water and curb water pollution.
“If a person registers through the portal, a token will be generated via SMS. Once the payment is made online, an authorized vehicle will arrive at the scheduled time, collect the sludge, transport it to our treatment plant for processing and complete the service through a token-based system,” the official said.
The company will also require private septic tank sludge cleaning vehicles to register on the platform. Only vehicles with necessary approvals and permits from the Regional Transport Office will be allowed to operate on the platform and transport the collected fecal sludge to the Company’s treatment plant after paying the prescribed processing fee through the online portal.
“Currently, some private operators are reportedly charging between ₹10,000 to ₹30,000 for desludging services. The company expects the new system to offer the service at significantly lower rates through a regulated mechanism,” he said.
The online platform is being developed by Kannur-based Nellikka Complete Solutions Private Limited, a company specializing in solid waste management services, which has been associated with the Company’s online transaction system since 2018.
The company’s fecal sludge treatment plant is currently the only one in Kannur district and is equipped with advanced screening and processing machinery. Other municipal corporations have similar facilities but none have offered such an integrated online booking and tracking system.
The company also plans to expand the capacity and operating area of the treatment plant to accommodate the increased sludge volume expected once the online system becomes operational.
