At least six people were injured when a speeding Lamborghini, allegedly driven by the son of a prominent tobacco trader, crashed into pedestrians and two-wheelers on VIP Road in Kanpur’s posh Gwaltoli area on Sunday (February 8, 2026), police said.

DCP (Central) Atul Kumar Srivastava said, “The accident took place around 3.15 pm near Rev-3 Mall when the luxury car driven by Shivam Mishra, son of businessman KK Mishra, went out of control and hit people standing on the roadside and several vehicles, creating panic in the area.” he said.

Eyewitnesses said the car first hit a rickshaw and then hit a parked Royal Enfield motorcycle, throwing its driver about 10 feet into the air. The car got stuck on the front wheel of the motorcycle and after dragging the motorcycle for a while, it crashed into a lamppost and stopped.

Police said one of the injured, Taufiq, a resident of Yamunaganj, was thrown several meters and suffered serious injuries in his leg. Others suffered fractures and bruises.

Angry citizens gathered at the scene, surrounded the vehicle and forced the driver to stay inside. Witnesses claimed that private bouncers accompanying the defendant tried to push the crowd back and acted aggressively, increasing tensions.

The police arrived at the scene, rescued the driver and took the injured to a private hospital. The damaged Lamborghini was seized and taken to the police station, officials said.

Later, a chaotic situation emerged at the police station; victims and residents alleged inappropriate behavior by the defendant’s friends and alleged that the police were lenient on him due to his family’s influence. Some protesters also alleged that there was pressure for a compromise and a delay in registering the case.

Sonu Tripathi, one of the injured, told media persons that he and his cousin were standing near their parked motorcycle when the car hit them. “My cousin was thrown off the bike and two people were thrown onto the pavement. We filed a complaint,” he said.

DCP Srivastava said that the vehicle has been seized and further action will be taken based on the complaint.

“The injured have been given initial treatment. An FIR will be registered and further legal action will be taken,” he said.

KK Mishra runs Banshidhar Exports Pvt Ltd, a firm that supplies tobacco to gutkha manufacturers in the region.
