Karishma Kapur’s first reaction to Priya Kapur’s bid in Supreme Court to see divorce papers: ‘Frivolous’

Karisma Kapoor opposed Priya Kapur’s plea in the Supreme Court seeking access to her divorce papers with late Sunjay Kapur, terming the request as frivolous and invasion of privacy. The plea is linked to the ongoing legal dispute over Sunjay Kapur’s estate.

Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor has strongly opposed the case filed in the Supreme Court of India seeking access to her divorce papers from late businessman Sunjay Kapur. Karisma claimed that the request violated her privacy and had no legal significance, calling it ‘frivolous’ and unnecessary. Sunjay Kapur’s second wife Priya Kapur made a defense in the ongoing legal battle regarding his property.

What is the case about?

Priya Kapur has petitioned the Supreme Court for certified copies of Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur’s 2016 divorce decree. He argues that these records are necessary to support his claim regarding property rights and inheritance following Sunjay Kapur’s death. Since Sunjay Kapur’s death earlier this year, a legal battle has begun over his wealth and assets, estimated to be worth thousands of billions. The case is complicated because there are multiple family members involved in the conflict.

Karisma Kapoor’s strong objection:

According to Karisma Kapoor’s legal team, Priya Kapur has no right to access divorce records. Karisma claims that disclosing the documents would be against her right to privacy as the documents are private and confidential. According to his lawyers, the defense is simply an effort to reopen previously resolved legal issues. They stated that the request was neither legitimate nor serious and was ‘meaningless’.

Family members react:

Sunjay Kapur’s family also responded to the issue. According to reports, her sister did not approve of Priya Kapur’s action, saying that Karisma and Sunjay’s divorce papers are confidential and should not be involved in the inheritance dispute.

What happens next?

Karisma Kapoor was given two weeks to file a written response to the Supreme Court’s plea. After this, the court will decide whether Priya Kapur has the right to see the divorce papers. For now, the case highlights the growing dispute over Sunjay Kapur’s estate and raises questions about inheritance, privacy and the limits of the law in high-profile family disputes.
