Karnataka Governor calls upon the youth to become job creators and build a self-reliant India

Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot said that if India is to be self-reliant and develop by 2047, the youth must give a new direction to society through their talent, innovation and entrepreneurship.

“The younger generation should try to be job providers rather than job seekers,” he said while addressing graduating students at the 16th convocation of JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSSAHER) in Mysuru in the presence of Vice President CP Radhakrishnan on Sunday.

Congratulating the graduates, the Governor said, “This is one of the most precious moments of your life. You are stepping into society as the architects of the New India, the torch bearers of humanity and the messengers of hope. I am confident that with the knowledge and skills you have gained, you will face the challenges and seize the opportunities successfully.”

Quoting former President of India Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, Mr. Gehlot reminded the students that “the purpose of education is to develop the inherent excellence of the individual.”

Referring to Swami Vivekananda’s call to ‘Arise, wake up and do not stop until the goal is achieved’, the Governor urged the students to put knowledge into action and contribute to building a developed nation. “Today, India is entering a new era of innovation and research with vast opportunities in healthcare, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, artificial intelligence and sustainable development. This is your time to learn, create and give back to society,” he said.

The Governor also said that India has been “a beacon of knowledge for thousands of years”, noting that “Vedas, Upanishads, Ayurveda, Yoga, Vastu, Philosophy and Law” are “our priceless heritage”.

He said that the 2020 National Education Policy reintroduces these ancient wisdom streams into modern education, while also calling on young people to understand these disciplines in today’s context, conduct research and present their importance on the global stage.

Highlighting Karnataka’s leadership in education, knowledge and technology, Mr. Gehlot noted that the state is home to many world-class institutions and research centres, including JSS. “Institutions like JSS have played a pivotal role in making Mysuru and Bengaluru two of the leading education hubs in India,” he said.

Paying tribute to Shivaratri Rajendra Swami, the Governor said the former was not only a religious leader but also a visionary and compassionate thinker who championed the causes of ‘Akshara Dasoha’ (education), ‘Anna Dasoha’ (food and shelter) and ‘Arogya Dasoha’ (health care).

Mr. Gehlot also lauded the efforts of the current seer Shivaratri Deshikendra Swami, the 24th priest of Suttur Mutt, to continue this noble legacy and take the service and impact of the mutt to global levels.

“Shivaratri Deshikendra Mahaswami’s vision has transformed the dog into a world-class institution that integrates education, healthcare and research with human values,” the governor added.

Shivaratri Deshikendra Swami, who is also the chancellor of JSSAHER; and Justice (Retired) Shivaraj Patil, former Judge of the Supreme Court; He was among the dignitaries present at the ceremony.

At the meeting ceremony, a total of 2,925 students were awarded degrees, diplomas and scholarships, while 16 gold medalists from different academic disciplines were also thanked.
