Karnataka Man’s House Vandalised After Fleeing With Married Woman

Belagavi: In Barmanatti village on the outskirts of Belagavi, the house of a man who had reportedly eloped with a married woman was allegedly attacked and destroyed. Police have formed a special team to arrest the accused, Commissioner of Police Bhushan Gulabrao Borase said on Tuesday.

The incident took place around 6 pm on Monday, when a group of attackers targeted Bheemappa’s house, damaging roof tiles, furniture and household items, including a television.

Borase said that based on the complaint, an FIR has been registered against Nagaraj, Ravi, Ishwar and others based on the complaint.

“No one sustained bodily injuries in the incident, but the house and other property were damaged. A special team has been formed and the defendant will be arrested immediately,” he said, adding that police personnel reached the spot promptly after receiving a call on the 112 emergency helpline.

According to police, the attack was triggered after Bheemappa’s son Yallappa allegedly eloped with a married woman. It is thought that the attackers may be from the woman’s family. However, police are confirming whether those involved in the incident are from her parents’ family or her husband’s family.

“Those who take the law into their own hands will face harsh sanctions,” Borase said.

Police Chief said that the incident occurred within the borders of Marihal Police Station. Apart from registering criminal cases, the police will also initiate preventive measures, including filing of noise sheets and initiating bail proceedings against the accused.

He added that patrol operations in the region will be intensified to prevent similar incidents.
