Katie Price opens up on her terminally ill mother’s health battle and says ‘I love you’ in emotional update

Katie Price opened up about her terminally ill mother Amy’s health battle in an emotional update on Tuesday’s episode of Good Morning Britain.

The former glamor model appeared on the ITV show to chat to Susanna Reid and Ed Balls about her marriage to Lee Andrews.

The newlywed couple were supposed to explain everything about their new relationship to the hosts live in the studio, but Lee claimed he didn’t appear on TV because he was too busy.

However, the conversation soon turned to other topics; Katie’s mother Amy, 73, was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) in 2017.

Broadcaster Susanna asked Katie: ‘Your mother was in a bad way, wasn’t she?’

Katie replied: ‘Mum’s in a bad way.’

Looking at the camera, he continued: ‘Mom, I know you’re watching. I know you’re not well, but I want to tell you that I love you very much.

‘I’ll come see you tomorrow, so yeah he’s not very well at the moment, he’s really not well. ‘I love you so much mom, you’ll probably burst into tears watching this.’

Katie’s mother, Amy, had a lung transplant in 2022.

Katie left in December last year Both her mother and fans shed tears of joy as she gave him a life-changing gift. Christmas giving him ‘some freedom and independence’.

Mother of five children Amy took to her YouTube channel to share a new vlog documenting her Christmas celebrations with her family on the Isle of Wight, where she lives.

But he warned viewers they might ‘need some tissues’ to watch the ‘tear-jerking’ video in which he offers his mother a heartfelt gift that has left her overcome with emotion amid health problems.

Katie, who arrived with ex-husband Peter Andre, 18, and Junior, 20, along with her children and eldest child Harvey, 23, gave Amy a motorized scooter to help her get around and give her a ‘new chance at life’.

Amy still has difficulty with mobility, struggling to walk anywhere without having trouble breathing, causing her to feel ‘stuck’.

But Katie proudly revealed the mobility scooter she bought to replace her wheelchair and Zimmerframe, saying: ‘Whether you like it or not, you’ve got this now! A new lease on life, mom.’

In the video, the reality star was seen showing her mother how to drive the scooter, how to move forward and backward, how to operate the brakes and different speeds.

When asked if she liked the gift, Amy gushed: ‘Yes, I do, of course I do!’ Her grandchildren, Junior and Princess, rush to embrace her before she becomes overwhelmed with emotion and bursts into tears.

He tried the scooter himself and said happily: ‘I’m going to have some fun with this. “I think it’s opening up…” before she choked up again, Katie hugged her and finished: “It’s opening up a new space of life, a little bit of freedom.”

Amy added: ‘Isn’t this crazy? Now I’m thinking of all the places I could go. It gives you back some independence. This is what I need.

‘Where I get used to it and then I don’t have it. Especially when [husband Paul] Not here, I’m stuck. So that’s good. I can’t believe this. ‘Oh my God, this is too much for my brain.’

Speaking to the camera, Katie expressed her delight at her mother’s reaction, saying: ‘Everyone was happy this Christmas. All children. J.J. And the person who deserves it the most and is happier is the mother.

‘He has a new life contract. They are beautiful, happy tears. I’m happy too because he has more independence to go and do things.’

Katie appeared on the show alone after her husband Lee Andrews failed to show up for a scheduled live interview.

The day before, Katie had revealed that her husband Lee had canceled their first live TV interview together.

Last year Katie described how ‘frustrating’ Amy’s ongoing health problems are. ‘still open’ but ‘can’t do the things he used to do’.

While speaking to Amy on her podcast, Katie Price Show, Katie told fans that her mom has some good days and some bad days.

He said: ‘I feel sorry for you mom, because people need to understand what my mom is going through. It’s like his brain is very active and still open. He can’t do the things he used to do, which is frustrating for him.

‘Here’s an example, because I’m a patient person, but when my mum teases me and says ‘Let’s look at the shops on the Isle of Wight, should I buy my walker or my wheelchair?’ and I said, “No, we’re taking your wheelchair because I’m not taking an hour of your time.” I said.’

Amy replied: ‘That doesn’t do me any good because I have to walk to help myself.’

When Amy was first diagnosed with IPF in 2017, medics told her her life expectancy was up to five years; Katie later said she “only has two weeks to live” when she finally finds a lung donor in 2022.

Giving an update on her health in November 2024, Amy said: Daily Star: ‘This is a slow process and takes some time. I’ve had a lot of setbacks but that’s to be expected but I’m heading in the right direction.

‘The problem is that when you have a lung transplant it’s very easy to sit around because you’re still a little bit out of breath, but if I don’t exercise I can’t move forward.

‘I’ve had a single lung transplant but that was going to stop too so I need to exercise to make it work.’

Katie appeared on the show alone after her husband Lee failed to show up for a scheduled live interview.

Lee, 42, is thought to have been banned from leaving Dubai after allegedly forging the signature of his ex-girlfriend Dina Taji to obtain a £200,000 loan. Lee vehemently denied this.

But that didn’t stop him from agreeing to travel to the UK with Katie to appear live on GMB for their first joint interview.

Addressing her absence, presenter Susanna Reid, 55, said: ‘This morning we welcomed Katie and her new husband Lee back to GMB; ‘This is the first time we have met Lee in person, but he did not board the flight from Dubai yesterday.’

Katie, 47, claimed that she could not get on the plane because she was a very busy man.

He explained: ‘He had some things to do at the last minute due to work.’

Ed Balls began the interview by saying: ‘We asked the Foreign Office if there was any travel ban on Lee and they responded by saying we were supporting a Briton detained in the United Arab Emirates.

‘Katie joins us now. Is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs right? Lee was arrested at the airport?’

He said: ‘No, they told me that there. I just said: “Lee, it looks like a British man has been detained. Can you confirm it’s not you?”

‘I clearly know it’s not him, so he wrote a voice note and used laughing emojis. “No, it’s not me,” he said in the voice note. He sent me his photos, he’s at the airport now, he’s on his way.’

He told the presenters: ‘He just didn’t manage to fly [to the UK on Monday]. Coming here to spend a few months. He prepares my visa and international driver’s license. He was flying from Muscat, Oman]but he had work to do and couldn’t fly. All the work items are there. ‘He’s at the airport right now.’

Ed asked Katie if Lee was ‘untrustworthy’.

He replied: ‘I don’t think so, no. Like hell.

‘I want you to ask me anything, because you read everything, so I want you to question me, ask me whatever you want, at least that will clear things up.’

Susanna then asked Katie if she trusted Lee.

Katie replied: ‘Yes, I know no one believes me. But your face says it all. I was in Dubai, but returned on Friday.

‘I can’t keep going to Dubai, I have work and children here.’

Susanna pointed out that it would be expensive to continue the trip, to which Katie replied: ‘Well, she’s paying for it. I can’t keep going to Dubai so now he’s moving here to spend time here.

‘And I said, ‘I keep flying to you, you have to come to England now.’
