Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau kicked off their relationship on Instagram after the singer posted a photo of the duo smiling cheek to cheek and a video of them eating sushi together in Japan.
After months of speculation about a possible romance between her and the former Canadian prime minister, Perry’s post appeared to confirm that the two were in a relationship.
The selfie was part of a carousel of photos and videos taken during a trip to Japan, posted on the singer’s account, which has 202 million followers, on Saturday.
Perry captioned the series, “Touring hours and more in Tokyo,” followed by a smiling face and various emojis, including flowers and a red heart.
The post comes after Trudeau reshared a photo on X on Thursday of the couple posing with Japan’s former prime minister Fumio Kishida and his wife, Yuko.
Resharing the post, Trudeau wrote: “Great to see you @kishida230. Katy and I are so glad we had the chance to sit down with you and Yuko.”

Neither Perry nor Trudeau have publicly commented on their relationship, but Instagram’s confirmation comes after months of public attention on the duo.
In July, Perry and Trudeau were spotted sharing a dinner date together in Montreal; Trudeau was seen singing his heart out to the song Firework at Perry’s concert two days later.
They made their first appearance together in October, when the pair were photographed holding hands after attending a cabaret show in Paris to celebrate the singer’s 41st birthday.
Trudeau served as Canada’s prime minister from 2015 to 2025 as leader of the Liberal Party before announcing his resignation earlier this year.
Perry is a 13-time Grammy award nominee who has released seven studio albums featuring hit songs including California Gurls, Hot n Cold and Roar.
