Keir Starmer reveals date Brexit ‘betrayal’ deal to be signed with EU | Politics | News

While Labor has faced criticism for its persistent efforts to pass EU laws, Sir Keir himself is pushing for a (remaining) reset. Critics such as Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch and Reform UK leader Nigel Farage branded it a “betrayal” of Brexit, and the Daily Express launched a campaign to Give Us a Proper Brexit, calling for the country to make the most of its freedoms.

Welcoming the summit, European Council President Antonio Costa said: “Close EU-UK cooperation is essential for our common European security, resilience and prosperity.

“We are working closely together to make the second summit in Brussels on 22 July a success.”

The summit will take place on 22 July as the Labor Government seeks to establish closer relations with the European Union.

Sir Keir Starmer said he had fulfilled his promise to reset ties with the EU by confirming a second summit with the bloc on July 22.

He posted on X: “Today I agreed with @eucopresident that we will hold the second UK-EU summit on 22 July.

“My Labor Government is delivering on our promise to reset our relationship and place Britain at the heart of Europe.

“Together we will tackle living costs, increase employment and create opportunities for young people.”
