Kejriwal dares PM Modi to impose 75% tariff on U.S. imports to India

Arvind Kejriwal, the collector of the AAM AADMI Party, called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, September 7, 2025 to “show some courage” and bring a tariff of 75% for imports from the United States in response to the 50% tariff in Indian exports.

At a press conference, Mr. Kejriwal claimed that the center’s decision to exempt a 11% task for the importation of cotton imports from the USA by 31 December 2025 would damage Indian cotton farmers. Authorized, US farmers will impoverish the rich and Gujarat cultivators, he added.

India currently has an import tax exemption for raw cotton until December 31 this year to support the textile industry and lower input costs.

Mr. Kejriwal, “We demand the courage from the Prime Minister to show courage, the whole country stands behind you. America has brought 50% tariff from India for export. You are applying 75% tariff to imports from America and the country is ready to carry it.

In addition, by demanding 11% tax for cotton imported from the United States, the minimum support price and cotton supplying with 2,100 la per 20 kg, as well as subsidizing fertilizers and seeds to help Indian farmers.

The central government first lifted this task for 40 days – between 19 August – 30 September. But now it has been extended and removed until December 31, Kejriywal said.
