Kensington Palace makes major Princess Kate cancer update | Royal | News

The Princess of Wales has spoken of how cancer “profoundly affects every aspect of life” as she celebrates completing the Three Peaks challenge this weekend. Catherine, who announced she was cancer-free in January 2025, undertook the endurance event “not just as a physical exertion, but as a chance to explore life beyond diagnosis and give something back” following a heatwave in the country.

On the hike, the princess climbed the highest mountains in England, Wales and Scotland; That’s 23 miles of hiking, 3,064 vertical feet of climbing, and 462 miles of driving between locations. At the top of Ben Nevis on Saturday night, a photo of the princess was released to celebrate her achievements, showing her wrapped in the elements in a hooded black raincoat, baseball cap and a backpack on her back.

In a message shared by Kensington Palace last night, the princess said she was taking on the challenge to raise awareness of the wider impact serious illness can have on a person’s life and to raise money for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, where Catherine received her chemotherapy after being diagnosed.

Catherine said: “Every year, hundreds of thousands of people in this country hear the words no one else wants to hear. The path that follows is one that tests every aspect of who we are: physically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually.”

“Challenges ripple outward, touching families, friendships, work and the quiet moments we spend alone with our thoughts. Cancer doesn’t just affect the body. It changes how you think and feel, and profoundly affects every aspect of life.”

“I know this personally and know that the journey through and after treatment requires more than just medication.”

He went on to explain why his solo challenge was so important to his recovery, saying: “I joined the National Three Peaks Challenge not just as a physical challenge, but as a chance to explore life beyond diagnosis and give something back.

“Royal Marsden is a place that means so much to me and whose care and expertise will change the lives of so many people.”

Money raised will go towards improving access to holistic healthcare as we are passionate about supporting the whole person alongside clinical treatment.

Holistic care includes psychological and spiritual support, physical activity, nutrition, complementary approaches, and time spent in nature. It plays a critical role in helping patients tolerate treatment and accelerate recovery.

These therapies enable patients to take a more active role in their own care, encouraging choice and awareness of what works for them.

Catherine wants to make sure people facing cancer know they are seen, supported and that they are not alone.

The Princess climbed Ben Nevis, Scarfell me Pike and Snowdon on Saturday evening and completed the ascent in 24 hours.

She did it alone, was supported by Mountain Rescue along the way, and was greeted by her husband, three children, parents and brother as she completed the challenge last night.

They were all waiting at the foot of Mount Snowdon.

The Princess concluded her message with the following words: “Together, we can stand up for everyone living with cancer, ensuring no one faces this disease unseen or unsupported.

“Please know that you are not alone.”

Catherine was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer in early 2024 and underwent six months of chemotherapy.

He has now resumed a normal duty schedule and went to Italy last month for his first official overseas visit.
