Kerala woman assaulted for questioning eve-teasing

A woman was allegedly attacked and her mobile phone was smashed by a man reportedly from an eight-member group after she questioned the evening procession at Chakkalappadam Road at Kaloor in Kerala’s Kochi in the early hours of Tuesday.
The woman, who returned to her room after a part-time job at around 04:00 at night, was allegedly mocked by a group, including two women, with her friend. The man allegedly made inappropriate gestures and comments. When the woman confronted him and started recording a video, he allegedly became violent.
It was claimed that the suspect beat him and destroyed his mobile phone. The woman injured in the attack continues to be treated in hospital. Ernakulam Town North police have launched an investigation.
“We have registered a case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 74 (assault or criminal offense against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty). Investigation is on and we are examining CCTV footage from the area,” police sources said.
