Kevin Muscat deal to be new Rangers boss off

Rangers’ move to make Kevin Muscat the club’s next head coach has failed.
Muscat has responsibility for Chinese side Shanghai Port, who are challenging for the Super League title in a race that could last until November or December.
The two sides were in advanced talks to bring the former Ibrox player to Glasgow but the possible delayed start to his tenure made the deal unworkable for both parties.
It comes after former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard rejected the chance to return to the club and former Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl withdrew from the race.
BBC Scotland understands the club has interviewed multiple candidates and is confident an appointment will be made in the coming days.
Russell Martin was sacked on 5 October after just 123 days in charge following a poor start to the campaign.
Rangers currently sit sixth in the Scottish Premier League with just two wins from eight matches, while failing to qualify for the Champions League under Martin.
