Killer laughs and fist-bumps on bus after murdering student – before boasting: ‘I stabbed him in the back’

Footage shows a killer laughing and punching a university student on a London bus an hour after fatally stabbing her.

Dino Donaldson murdered 21-year-old accounting student Anojan Gnaneswaran at Strawberry Hill station in Twickenham after a drug deal turned violent.

Five minutes later he accidentally activated the Ring doorbell near the scene and was heard bragging about it. He told one of his associates about the murder.

‘I stabbed a man in the back, brother, I stabbed him in the back – literally stabbed him,’ he says in the recording. ‘I watched him and felt him getting into it. Yes?’

Donaldson then boarded the N87 night bus, where an onboard camera captured him laughing and smiling. He can also be seen reaching out to shake someone’s hand before coming to blows.

Donaldson, from Ealing, was arrested by detectives from the British Transport Police’s Major, Serious and Organized Crime (MSOC) team.

Yesterday, jurors found him guilty of murder and possession with intent to supply Class A drugs after a four-week trial.

Previously, the Old Bailey heard that two groups of young men made a deal for 10 MDMA tablets for £50 to be exchanged at Strawberry Hill on the evening of January 8, 2024.

Donaldson and three others arrived just after 10pm, followed by Mr Gnaneswaran about an hour later.

A dispute arose between the two parties and Mr. Gnaneswaran called his brother, who came to the station along with two others.

The argument continued on the platform before Donaldson pulled a long knife from his waistband.

He chased the group and caught up with Mr. Gnaneswaran on the railway tracks and stabbed him in the chest, abdomen and hip.

The victim’s brother called 999 and began CPR before paramedics arrived at the scene. However, the young man died at the scene.

BTP detectives tracked Donaldson’s movements following the attack using CCTV as he fled Twickenham to Kingston Upon Thames.

The search team found a knife and black gloves in a tree at the murder scene. During the forensic examination, DNA belonging to Donaldson and Anojan was found on both items.

Officers raided Donaldson’s home on January 11, 2024, and found him hiding in a closet.

A subsequent search of the bedroom uncovered 74 wraps of crack cocaine and heroin with an estimated street value of more than £1,000.

BTP Detective Chief Inspector Paul Attwell said: ‘A row over a drugs deal resulted in a young man’s life being cut short by a ruthless thug.

‘Donaldson showed his true colors as a coward that night by arming himself with a knife. His cowardice continued by never accepting responsibility and admitting his guilt; Thank goodness the jury saw through his lies.

‘He will live the rest of his life knowing that he took someone else’s, and next month, behind bars, he will learn that he has a long time to reflect on his actions.

‘Whilst no verdict can compensate for Anojan’s loss, I hope today’s result provides his family with some sense of closure.

‘Thanks to our thorough investigation, justice has now been served to the man responsible for killing his loved ones.’

Mr Gnaneswaran died from serious stab wounds at Strawberry Hill station

Mr Gnaneswaran’s family paid tribute to their ‘much loved son and brother’.

They said: ‘Anojan was in his third year at university studying accounting and finance and was very excited about his future.

‘He excelled in all sports and achieved a first dan black belt in karate; He competed in the World and European championships in karate and we will all miss him very much.’

Donaldson will be sentenced on June 19.
