King Charles and Prince William expected to visit US in 2026 to revitalise trade deal | King Charles III

King Charles III and the Prince of Wales are reportedly expected to make separate trips to the US in 2026 as part of his campaign to revive the trade deal with Donald Trump.
According to the Times report, it is said that advanced negotiations regarding the king’s visit are continuing. The newspaper suggested that Charles’s visit to the USA would most likely take place in April.
William is expected to make a separate visit to the US later in the year during the World Cup, which will be hosted by the US, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.
Visit by Queen Elizabeth II. It will be the first visit by a sitting British monarch since Elizabeth accepted George W. Bush’s invitation in 2007.
Earlier this month, the US paused promised billions of pounds of investment in British technology due to trade disputes.
As part of £31bn The deal, which Keir Starmer hailed as “a generational shift in our relationship with the US” when it was announced during Trump’s state visit, saw US tech companies pledge to spend billions of dollars in the UK, including a £22bn investment from Microsoft and £5bn from Google.
But Washington has paused implementation of the deal due to Britain’s failure to make progress in reducing trade barriers in other areas.
The decision to suspend the deal was a blow to the UK government, which had touted it as a reward for a year of intense cooperation with the US to avoid punitive tariffs on British exports. Starmer hosted Trump on a second state visit to Windsor Castle in September as part of his diplomatic charm offensive; This was an unprecedented honor for a US president.
In early December, Downing Street said the government was still in “active discussions” with the US over a technology deal. But the prime minister’s spokesman acknowledged that “such negotiations will never be simple”.
Reports suggested US negotiators were frustrated by slow progress in agreeing a broader trade deal announced in May 2025 that would see Britain escape the 20 per cent tariffs the US president imposed on the rest of the world.
Britain’s digital services tax, opposed by Trump’s big tech backers, and the sensitive issue of giving US farmers greater access to British markets are thought to be sticking points.
The visit is likely to be timed to ensure the prince is in the United States for Independence Day, the Times reported.
The prime minister is not expected to accompany the king during the visit. According to reports, Foreign Minister Yvette Cooper is expected to attend the meeting to represent the government instead.
William is expected to visit the United States during the World Cup in his capacity as Football Association president. England’s third group match will be played in New Jersey on 27 June, a week before the 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence celebrations on 4 July.
For the bicentenary celebrations of independence in 1976, the queen and Prince Philip visited Philadelphia, Washington DC and New York for six days. The Queen was hosted by President Gerald Ford at a state dinner at the White House.
Talking about his visit during his Christmas broadcast the same year, he said: “This year we went to attend the American bicentennial celebrations. 200 years ago, who was King George III?”
He added: “The United States was born into bitter conflict with Britain, but we did not remain enemies for long.”
Buckingham Palace declined to comment, saying it does not comment on upcoming royal engagements.
