King Charles and Queen Camilla put the royal seal of approval on Ascot as they join Peter Phillips and new bride Harriet Sperling in the sun for final day

King Charles and Queen Camilla joined Peter Phillips and his new bride, Harriet Sperling, for the sunny fifth and final day at Royal Ascot.

The couple led traditional royal procession downwards Windsor Castle to the Berkshire racetrack with a fleet of cars.

While the 77-year-old King wore a stylish gray suit, blue vest and top hat, 78-year-old Camilla chose a stylish all-blue outfit.

Newlyweds Peter and Harriet, who married in a private ceremony in Kemble, Gloucestershire, on 6 June, were invited by Charles to join the procession.

45-year-old Harriet chose a stylish white maxi dress and a matching white hat. The smartly dressed 48-year-old had a small pink bag in her hand as she held Peter’s hand.

The couple was seen arm in arm and smiling as they arrived at the event amid scorching heat today.

A host of celebrities flocked to the course today, including Ellie Simmons OBE, Lisa Tan and Charlotte Hawkins.

The King and Queen were left heartbroken on Friday when their horse took second place on the course.

A video of the excited royal couple cheering on Entitled, ridden by one of their beloved horses, William Buick, is circulating online.

In the racing festival’s 15.40 Duke of Edinburgh Stakes, the last tense fight between Warrant Holder and James McDonald aboard Opportunity took place.

But New Zealand pilot McDonald clinched victory ahead of King’s mount and the pair’s euphoria turned to pain as they watched their last hopes of victory disappear.

Despite being highly regarded by punters, none of the King’s five horses in the event have won their races this year.

Charles and Camilla own dozens of thoroughbred racehorses together, nearly 100 of which are owned by Queen Elizabeth II. They inherited it from Elizabeth, but unfortunately they didn’t see much of a victory at Ascot this year.

He auctions off some of these from time to time, selling 14 in 2022.

On the opening day of this year’s festival on Tuesday, another of the King’s horses, Reaching High, finished a disappointing last in the Ascot Stakes despite being a much-loved horse.

Trained by Willie Mullins, who dominated the National Hunt races, the horse was sent off as the 13-8 favorite but still failed to equalize the royals’ success.

It would be the first win for them since 2023, when Desert Hero won the King George V handicap in the trainer-jockey partnership of William Haggas and Tom Marquand.

There are seven more races at Ascot today between 2.30pm and 6.10pm: the Norfolk Stakes, Hardwicke Stakes, Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes, Jersey Stakes, Wokingham Stakes, Golden Gates Stakes Handicap and Queen Alexandra Stakes.
