King Charles melts hearts with special meeting at Chelsea Flower show | Royal | News

They also visited the King’s Foundation Curious Garden, which aims to encourage people’s interest in gardening.

Charles was seen chatting to Sir David Beckham, with whom he created the garden, and broadcaster Alan Titchmarsh, as well as other celebrities including Dame Judi Dench.

However, he was also seen interacting with a dog at the Animal and Plant Health Agency’s “smells and sensors” exhibition, which caught people’s attention.

The exhibit explores how detection dogs and their technologies can help combat plant pests and diseases.

Charles met Zinc, a three-and-a-half-year-old cocker spaniel trained to detect plant diseases.

He was photographed playfully petting the dog.

Along with his trainer Luke Jones, Zinc demonstrated how quickly he could find a toy he had been trained to smell, and demonstrated his enhanced sense of smell to detect diseases.

The King asked Mr. Jones about Zinc’s expertise: “Is that just what he specializes in?”

Mr Jones said Zinc was an expert at sniffing out Phytophthora, a group of fungus-like organisms that cause crop losses worldwide.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, the Princess Crown and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester toured the show separately on Monday evening.

This year’s event showcases gardens with items such as a Barbara Hepworth statue and Japanese bonsai trees.
