According to numerous reports, King George III. Charles will reflect on the “increasing pressures of conflict” around the world “at a time of great challenge” during a speech scheduled for Monday.

“We come together this Commonwealth Day at a time of great challenges and great possibilities,” a preview of the 77-year-old’s Commonwealth Day speech reads.

The King’s speech continued: “Around our world, communities and nations face increasing pressures of conflict, climate change and rapid transformation. But it is often in such testing moments that the enduring spirit of the Commonwealth is most clearly revealed.”

The speech will come just over a week after the United States and Israel launched a coordinated attack against Iran; British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that the United Kingdom did not participate in these attacks for the sake of its own national interests.

“This is not Winston Churchill we’re dealing with,” President Donald Trump said earlier this week as he criticized Starmer amid perceived lack of support for the joint US-Israeli military operation against Iran.

“By the way, I’m not happy with the UK either,” the President said, referring to Starmer’s decision to prevent the US from using UK bases to launch an attack on Iran.

Britain has since allowed the US to use its bases in the region to defend against Iranian retaliatory attacks. It has also mobilized warplanes and plans to send a destroyer and possibly an aircraft carrier.

The president said Tuesday that “it took us three, four days to decide where we could land there,” referring to the Chagos Islands, a British territory in the Indian Ocean.

“It would have been much easier to land there instead of flying extra hours, so we were very surprised,” he said.

The president later said the UK had been “very, very uncooperative with that stupid candidate.”

“This is a shame,” Trump said. “That country is the United Kingdom and I love that country, I love it.”

“This is not the age of Churchill,” he added.

Trump criticized Starmer again on Saturday, accusing the prime minister of joining the war after the US had “already won”.

“The United Kingdom, once our Great Ally and perhaps our greatest, is finally seriously considering sending two aircraft carriers to the Middle East,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “It’s okay, Prime Minister Starmer, we don’t need them anymore – But we’ll remember. We don’t need people joining the Wars after we’ve won!”

Starmer defended his decision to stay out of the conflict, saying Britain “was not involved in the initial attacks on Iran and we will not take part in offensive action now.”

“But we will protect our people in the region against Iran’s missile and drone bombardment,” Starmer said in his speech to Parliament on Monday. “President Trump has expressed disagreement with our decision not to engage in the initial attacks, but it is my job to decide what is in Britain’s national interest. That’s what I did and I stand by it.”

A preview of the speech continues: “Working together, we can ensure that the Commonwealth continues to stand as a force for good, committed to the kind of restorative sustainability that is community-based, ROI-enriched, culture-enriched, committed to its care for our planet, and united in friendship and service to its people.”

Charles’ speech at the abbey will also be the biggest gathering of the royal family since the arrest of former Prince Andrew on February 19.
