King Charles tour latest: Royal arrives in Bermuda after multiple meetings with Trump during US state visit

After the completion of the US leg, King III. Charles set out for Bermuda to begin a three-day visit to a British overseas territory, his first as monarch.

The trip follows a diplomatically important tour of the US focused on strengthening what Charles described as an “indispensable alliance”, amid tensions over Britain’s refusal to join the US-Israeli war against Iran.

The visit included a historic address to Congress and a White House state dinner, where Charles emphasized NATO cooperation and continued support for Ukraine.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla spent their final hours in the United States attending a street event with marching bands and bluegrass music in Front Royal, Virginia.

Apple butter donuts, pulled pork, crab toast, chicken wings, burgers, and Girl Scouts cookies were prepared as part of a “potluck” meal; but Charles and Camilla did not eat.

While residents of the town of about 15,000 attended the demonstration with British and American flags, locals say this was their most important visit since Bing Crosby in 1950.

King III. Charles paid tribute to the US war dead at Arlington National Cemetery, where he was greeted with a 21-gun salute before laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

He then went to Shenandoah National Park in the Blue Ridge Mountains; where he was presented with America’s national symbol, the bald eagle, by a park ranger at the last stop of his US tour.

The two leaders appeared briefly with Queen Camilla and Melania Trump before the royal motorcade departed. Trump also gave the couple a thumbs-up wave and added: “We need more people like this in our country.”

King Charles III and Queen Camilla concluded their four-day US state visit with a brief farewell to US President Donald Trump at the White House, a trip aimed at strengthening transatlantic ties.

The visit, planned to mark the 250th anniversary of America’s independence, also had a diplomatic goal: to repair the tensions in relations due to the Iran conflict.

Trump struck a warm tone on the final day, describing Charles as a “great friend” and suggesting the monarch’s personal closeness could help ease tensions with British prime minister Keir Starmer, telling reporters: “When you love the king of a country that much, that probably helps your relationship with the prime minister.”

The pause lasted less than 10 minutes before the royal couple departed for their final meeting in Virginia.

King Charles is reportedly pleased that the US is rolling back tariffs on UK whisky, a move President Donald Trump announced after this week’s royal visit.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman told the Press Association on Thursday: “The King has been made aware of President Trump’s warm gesture and expresses his sincere gratitude for a decision that will make a significant difference to the British whiskey industry and the livelihoods it supports.”

“It will be a great coup de grace for the president’s thoughtfulness and generous hospitality as His Majesty departs the United States in this special anniversary year, following a very enjoyable state visit for both their royal highnesses.”

King Charles lands in Bermuda on Thursday evening and has a busy stopover day ahead tomorrow.

He is from St. He will begin by visiting King’s Square in St George’s, where he will be welcomed by the Royal Bermuda Regiment and dignitaries, and then proceed to St Peter’s Church.

He will then head to Trunk Island with the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo to learn about local nature and wildlife conservation on the island nation.

Later in the day, Charles will travel to Hamilton’s Town Hall and Arts Center and the Bermuda National Museum, where he will be welcomed by the National Gombey Society and visit the Queen’s Exhibition Hall.

Finally, he will round off his break day by meeting Commonwealth athletes ahead of this summer’s Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Chris Swonger, president and CEO of the US-based trade group Distilled Spirits Council, is one of many industry figures celebrating President Trump’s announcement that the US will reduce tariffs on UK whiskey.

The announcement means American and British distillers can, among other things, replace whiskey barrels commonly used in the aging process without a 10 percent tax on goods coming into the United States.

Swonger said the change would “make a huge contribution to the U.S. hospitality industry.” said USA Today.

“The US and UK whiskey industries are very intertwined.”

“We are grateful for President Trump’s demonstration of this commitment to the king, and we celebrate it today,” he added. “Toast, not tariffs.”

Distillers on both sides of the Atlantic were likely toasting on Thursday evening after President Trump announced the US would lift tariffs on UK whiskey in honor of the king’s recently concluded visit.

Sun He captured the mood with a headline story for next Friday’s edition that included the headline: “OUR MAJESTY’S DRAMA IS NICE WORK.”

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney thanked King Charles for visiting a key World War I memorial at Virginia’s Arlington National Cemetery on Thursday as part of the king’s tour of the United States.

Carney wrote, originally in French, on “This monument pays tribute to those Americans who joined the Canadian Armed Forces out of a sense of duty and a desire to fight for freedom in the years before the United States’ formal entry into World War I. It was later rededicated to include all Americans who joined the Canadian Forces during World War II and the Korean War.”
