King Charles’s Christmas Day plans at risk as choristers walk out after bitter row | Royal | News

The Royal Family’s Christmas Day at Sandingham could descend into chaos after choir members at the local church walked out of rehearsals amid a “modernisation” row with the church’s rector. The Reverend Canon Paul Williams, who has been Rector of St Mary Magdalene, Sandringham for three years and is also Chaplain in Residence, consulted the choir’s music director, Dr. He had a falling out with Claire Stewart.
The conflict between the two men arose following Rev Williams’ desire to modernize the choir. Among the proposals Dr Stewart opposed was the creation of a social media account for his performances.
Tensions reached such a boiling point that even King Charles was asked to intervene. The allegations have never been confirmed by Buckingham Palace.
Their suggestions, including the creation of a social media account for their performances, were accompanied by a controversial report sent to the choir stating that members had “no knowledge of music or singing technique”.
Dr. responded to the “modernization” suggestions with a 28-page complaint report. Stewart reportedly resigned from his position as music director of the choir.
Rev Williams sent a letter to choir members seen by LBC, acknowledging the “mixed emotions” his departure was likely to cause.
But the latest news has sparked uproar in the local community with fewer and fewer members attending choir rehearsals, raising concerns about whether there will be room left for the big Christmas Day church service attended by most members of the Royal Family.
Accordingly LBCAttendance at the final rehearsals was low; In one example, rehearsals were canceled after only three children attended.
A source said: “Everyone is deeply saddened. I’m distressed, angry and disappointed – especially when it should be such a special time of year with Christmas and Advent just around the corner.”
“The choir performs in close proximity to the Royal family, they form a large part of the Christmas service which they enjoy so much.
“After the services, the late Prince Philip would also stick his head in the door and thank the children. It was really special for all of them.”
Rev Williams has reportedly been trying to prevent any crisis on Christmas Day and has issued an ultimatum in his letter to parents and guardians stating that they must decide by the end of today, November 7, whether they will keep their children in the choir.
