KISS founding guitarist Ace Frehley dies aged 74

In a statement published in the US media, his family announced that Paul Daniel “Ace” Frehley, the founding guitarist of the American rock band KISS, died at the age of 74.
Frehley died surrounded by his family, who said they were “completely devastated and heartbroken.”
“In his final moments, we were fortunate enough to be able to surround him with loving, compassionate, peaceful words, thoughts, prayers and intentions as he left this world,” the statement said.
The guitarist was known for his “Spaceman” persona since the days when KISS was formed with the original lineup consisting of Paul Stanley (vocals, rhythm guitar), Gene Simmons (vocals, bass guitar), Frehley (lead guitar, vocals) and Peter Criss (drums, vocals).
They applied face paint to create four permanent characters: Demon, Starchild, Spaceman and Catman.
“We cherish his fondest memories, his laughter, and celebrate the strength and kindness he bestowed upon others. The magnitude of his passing is epic and incomprehensible. Considering all of his incredible life accomplishments, Ace’s memory will live on forever!” the family said.
Kiss was first formed in 1973. The group produced hit songs such as Rock and Roll All Nite and God of Thunder.
In 1983 they appeared without face paint for the first time and enjoyed a revival. This was known as “unmasking” them.
They were later remasked in the late 1990s.
Frehley and fellow founding member Peter Criss later left the band, and the band continued with different musicians.
The BBC reached out to the band’s representatives.
This is breaking news, more details will be added soon.
