Kit Connor and Joe Locke: ‘Making a film like Heartstopper will forever be important’

The final chapter of the Heartstopper saga was originally due to air as a fourth series, but despite the shorter running time each individual’s story is still carefully treated.

The film explores conversations about eating disorders, mental health, alcohol addiction, and difficult family dynamics.

Locke and Connor are also producers of this latest episode. Connor says this allowed the cast “to have creative input and be spokespeople” who “all care about these characters and the story.”

Locke, 22, jokes that most of the time people are given producer credit, but explains that “we actually made some effort and took it seriously.”

There is some sadness as they bid farewell to each other professionally; Locke stated that the show “changed my life in almost every way.”

“This is the biggest thing that could happen to any of us,” Connor adds.

“I value Joe as a friend, if we work together again that’s great, but he’s a great actor and I love watching him work,” he says.
