Alison Botha endured an unimaginable nightmare and survived, defying all expectations, and has spoken out about her terrifying experience. When she was just 27 years old, Alison was kidnapped and brutally gang raped in an attack; The attack left him disembowelled, which forced him to hold his intestines while his nearly severed head “fell backwards and almost leaned to the side.” [her] shoulder blades.”

A native of Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Alison, who was named her school’s principal in 1985, was described by the school as “extremely positive and with strong moral values.”

He spent December 18, 1994 spending time with friends and working as an insurance broker.

After arriving home and parking his car, he recalled: “I had just turned off the engine and turned off the headlights; it was so routine that I couldn’t do it all in one quick motion.”

As she leaned into the passenger seat to collect her laundry, she saw the head of a blond-haired man heading towards her vehicle. Frans DuToit, whose father worked as a police officer, threatened to kill her, saying he had no intention of harming her and only needed a ride for an hour.

Alison recalled feeling “strangely still.”

Evil Du Toit asked in 7 chilling words: “You live at number one, don’t you?”.

Desperately trying to establish rapport with her captor, Alison’s attempts were rebuffed with the reply: “I’d rather not say anything about me.”

According to Morbid, she suggested he just buy the car, but the man explained that he “wanted a friend.”

After getting a good distance from the city, Du Toit twice passed a group of people on the street, looking for one particular person, Theuns Krugeras.

The little man dressed in all black approached the driver’s door and got in the car. Giving the fake name “Clinton,” Du Toit adjusted the driver’s seat forward and, as Krugeras got in, pointed to Alison, who was also assuming a fictitious identity, and said, “Meet my friend Susan.”

They drove in uncomfortable silence towards a suburb outside Port Elizabeth, and Du Toit said only: “Theuns don’t speak good English.”

Du Toit slowed down near a wooded area and pulled over on sandy terrain. Krugeras got out of the car and Clinton then raped Alison.

Krugeras also started to attack him, but then he said “No, I can’t do that” and stopped, accidentally calling his partner “Frans”. Alison committed the name to memory.

Frans then told Alison, “If we take you into the city now, you will go to the police.” Du Toit continued: “What do you think Oom Nick would like us to do with him?” Oom Nick is an Afrikaans reference to Satan.

Krugeras responded: “I think he wants us to kill him.”

The pair forced Alison to remove her rings and clothes before Du Toit strangled her into unconsciousness and apologized throughout the ordeal. After regaining consciousness, Alison found herself surrounded by debris and noticed a man’s arm moving across her field of vision, leading to the horrifying realization that he had slit the man’s throat.

He recalled that he “could hear the flesh splitting.”

It was later revealed that the attackers had slit Alison’s throat 16 times and nearly decapitated her.

Suddenly the violence ended and Alison managed to roll over onto her stomach. He recalled: “I tried to hold my breath but realized I had no control over my breathing – I lifted my hand up to cover my neck – my whole hand disappeared into it, but it seemed to work – the sound was silenced.”

He then faked his death. One of the attackers asked the other if they believed he was dead, and the response was, “No one can survive this.”

Despite their serious injuries, Alison was adamant that her attackers must face justice; He wrote their names in the sand, including “I love my mother.”

Describing how her wounds felt, she explained: “It was as if I had cut through the iron. When I got there, I recognized the person below; I knew it was me, and I felt a very strong connection to the bleeding, mangled girl lying on her stomach.”

He then noticed a flash of light and realized he was closer to the road than he first thought. He managed to lift himself up onto his knees, reached down to his stomach, and felt something “warm, wet, and slimy.”

When he looked down, he saw a horrifying sight of his intestines spilling out of his abdomen. She described the terrifying moment: “It was scary, there was so much of me out there. I tried to pick it all up with my hands but it all slipped away again.”

He had more than 50 stab wounds in his midsection.

Shards of glass and debris cut his palms and knees as he tried to keep his organs inside using a piece of clothing. Half of his thyroid gland was sticking out of his throat.

At this point, he realized that anyone who found him would discover a huge blood trail, leaving his family devastated knowing that he suffered so much in his final moments.

She added: “My head had fallen back and was almost resting between my shoulder blades. I expected to feel something but when my hand disappeared inside me I was completely surprised, almost as if I had swallowed myself.”

Holding his head up with one hand and keeping his internal organs safe with the other, he crawled to the middle of the street and positioned himself sideways to stop the vehicles. When he spotted the first vehicle he “waved as quickly as possible” but the driver went around it.

The next scene that greeted Alison was a woman screaming and a young man kneeling next to her.

It was 2.45am when he was found; This meant that the nightmare from kidnapping to rescue lasted only an hour and a half. While enjoying the evening with friends at a nearby venue, Tiaan Eilerd came across Alison.

A qualified vet, he checked her pulse and delicately moved the thyroid gland back into position in her throat – Alison would later refer to it as her “lifeline”.

The veterinarian was surprised that the woman survived. He described her condition as looking like a “creature out of a Dickens novel”, with her neck injured “almost from ear to ear”.

Without Tiaan’s intervention to reposition his thyroid gland, he could have died.

He had multiple stab wounds in his intestines and his stomach muscles had collapsed. He later explained that one of the attackers informed him that they were deliberately trying to destroy his reproductive organs.

Defying all expectations, she surprisingly gave birth to two children later. Following extensive surgical treatment, Alison was admitted to intensive care.

When details of the attack became public, authorities discovered the pair were out on bail while facing rape charges. The two suspects admitted to worshiping the devil and pleaded guilty to kidnapping, sexual assault and attempted murder.

Du Toit had previously sexually assaulted another woman, but “his desire to kill her had diminished” following the attack. In 1995, both perpetrators were sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

When possible changes to sentencing legislation emerged in 2012, Alison thought: “Can you imagine just 100 life sentences being reintegrated into society without rehabilitation?”.

His tireless campaigning ensured they remained behind bars. However, on July 4, 2023, Du Toit and Kruger were awarded parole after serving only 28 years of their life sentences.

Alison was not given advance notice. Writing on her Facebook page, Alison Botha said: “The day I hoped and prayed for was never going to come. I was asked ‘How will you feel if they get parole?’ when asked. – my immediate response was always: ‘I hope I never find out.'”.

She documented her experience through her autobiography, “I Have a Life,” and more recently through the documentary, “Alison,” which was released in August of this year; She detailed her heartbreaking experience and remarkable recovery. Alison has also spoken at numerous meetings; He motivated people by showing how mindset, belief and decisions enabled him to endure.

Alison was presented with the prestigious Rotarian Paul Harris Award for Courage Beyond the Norm. During this period she became the first person to receive Femina magazine’s Woman of Courage award and was also recognized as Port Elizabeth’s Citizen of the Year.

Following the film’s release, Alison reflected: “I have always hoped that sharing my own journey with others will give them hope and courage. Sharing my story and ultimate triumph on the big screen means that many more people will see the power of choice that each of us has and can also choose to triumph over life’s challenges.”

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Alison considers her position as a single mother raising two boys to be her greatest accomplishment. Recognizing her steadfast determination to motivate others, help them overcome their obstacles, face challenges head on and sustain strength through challenging times, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University is proud to award Alison Botha with the Council Prestige Award.

This statement comes after a shocking incident in which a Colorado father killed his 13-year-old son after finding disturbing images of him.
