Knot Your Basic Tops

Fashion has that interesting feeling of appearing when you least expect it. A sensational moment emerged between Instagram and social media. Ties have become increasingly popular among men and women. Some find them liberating, while others appreciate the hint of risk. “I first saw this on Pinterest and fell in love. She had a unique sense of fashion,” says finance student Malika Noronha. Queer artist Meko adds: “Who wouldn’t say ‘Oh la la’ if the display is open-backed?”
The Knot is Just a Trend
There is a sense of curiosity towards these types of tops. From being the center of attention in the clubs to summer parties, there’s nothing this Tie Top can’t do. There are many styles: front tie, multi-tie, strappy, wrap. Let’s not forget that this bun can also be made at home. Just find some sparkly ties from your dad’s closet. “Tie tops put the power of fit back in your hands. You can adjust them according to your mood or comfort, making the style more personal. It’s a small detail, but it completely transforms how the outfit looks on you,” says stylist Tara Khana.
It’s a great DIY activity. You can reuse your old ties that are collecting dust in your father’s, boyfriend’s or brother’s closet. And a tailor or tailor’s machine. Breathable fashion wear that catches eyeballs. “We’re seeing a move away from rigid, structured pieces. Softer silhouettes, like tie-dye tops, feel more natural and wearable. They move with you rather than restricting you,” adds Khana.
Tie Me Up in Style
This Y2K resurgence sparked a fun shift in clothing, allowing individuals to stand out in a sea of fast fashion imitators. Styling videos with captions like “how to tie” provides practical guidance and inspiration. “Half the fun is experimenting with how you tie it. Some days I wear it tighter and more structured, other days I leave it loose and layered. It changes the whole vibe,” explains fashion student Meher Bedi.
Tie tops are suitable for all body types and are not limited to women only. They are very gender fluid. There is some skin showing that isn’t as obvious, making them less restrictive than structured tops. It strikes a good balance between understated and bold and exudes effortless confidence.
Pair with high-waisted jeans, cargo pants or miniskirts for a balanced and practical look. This outfit transitions easily from day to night with layering options like bralettes, tanks, and jackets; It is a versatile combination.
Last Knot
In many ways, the rise of tie-dyed tops signals something bigger than a seasonal wardrobe change. From personalization to flowing silhouettes, it reflects the growing desire for individuality. This is a subtle but important step from rigid, one-size-fits-all dressing to something much more personal and intuitive. “This is one of those trends that doesn’t feel like a waste. You can upcycle pieces you already own and still stay on trend,” Bedi reiterates.
There’s a soft nod to a slower, more mindful approach to fashion. Tie tops provide sustainability without fear of repetition and boredom. They can be styled tighter, looser, layered, up or down without losing their appeal. “For me, it’s also about sustainability. If I can repurpose what I already have instead of buying more, that’s a win,” says Thrifty Stylist Ritvik Sharma.
But beyond the practical aspect, this trend also has an emotional appeal. It may be a tie that your father passed down to you or that your brother once wore; It becomes a spiritual value worn around your neck rather than kept in a box. Maybe that’s why they spark interest; because they reflect how people want to dress now: free, comfortable and without too many rules. After all, in an often tightly wound world, there’s something refreshing about a trend that allows you to loosen up a little, one knot at a time.
