Known For Calm Demeanor, Chhattisgarh Speaker Raman Singh Slams Bureaucracy Over Protocol Gaffes

Raipur: He was accompanied by chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Chhattisgarh Assembly speaker and former CM Dr. Raman Singh took serious exception to the mismanagement of the government-sponsored mass wedding program by the local district administration in Bemetara in the state, terming it a system corruption.

Dr. is known among the public for his calm and composed demeanor. Singh surprised everyone present when he lost his cool, realizing there was gross mismanagement at the event on Sunday.

“The entire state ministry, including the prime minister, is here. Civil servants are still not serious (about the situation),” he said.

Dr. Singh said even the protocol of reception by the administration was violated when the prime minister was allowed to enter the ceremony from the back.

The former chief minister said he had never seen such mismanagement and systemic failure of the administration in his entire political career, including his 15-year tenure as chief minister of Chhattisgarh.

“Usually I never talk like this (in a loose manner) in such situations. But even when the Prime Minister and his entire ministry were there, I felt that the officers were not serious. So I raised the issue for them (officers) to know,” he added.

The incident took place when arrangements for holding a mass wedding program under the ‘Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana’ were completely disrupted after sudden rains adversely affected the venue.

As many as 21 couples, including local BJP MLA Dipesh Sahu and his bride, tied the wedding knots at the mass wedding programme.

Dignitaries like the Chief Minister, Assembly speaker and ministers in the state government were present at the event to bless the couples.

Later, the venue of the program was shifted to the auditorium hall of the government guest house in Bemetara.

Dr. Singh said that the alternative area can be arranged in advance to avoid such a situation.

However, Chief Minister Mr. Sai tried to downplay the issue, saying sudden rains disrupted the arrangement.

But he ordered the local division commissioner to investigate mismanagement of the programme.
