Australia and Papua New Guinea officially signed a mutual defense agreement that directs each country to support the other in case of an armed attack.

Prime Minister Anthony Arbanese and its counterpart James Marape signed the Pukpuk Treaty bearing the name of the Local Crocodile at the Parliament House in Canberra on Monday.

Mr. Marape watched a false start in Port Moresby in September, when PNG was scheduled to be signed for celebrations for the 50th anniversary.

“History brother, brother, Albania said, while senior ministers from both sides signed the agreement with Mr. Marape before applauding.

The Treaty also paves the way for Papua New Guinea to serve in the Australian Defense Forces, and Mr. Marape says that 10,000 citizens serve in the Arafura Sea.

Australia will also help support PNG’s defense power, including training and new capabilities.

The Treaty officials Australia’s first alliance more than 70 years and only third generally after the US and New Zealand.
