KRRS opposes privatisation of electricity supply

The Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and the Green Brigade have strongly opposed the State Government’s move to privatize electricity supply in 19 districts.
KRRS state president H R Basavarajappa, in a press conference held in Shivamogga on Saturday, May 30, 2026, said that the organization is against privatization of electricity distribution.
The distribution network comprising sub-stations, feeders, machines and other infrastructure worth thousands of rupees was public property built over decades and handing it over to a private company would mean handing over this asset to serve private interests.
He also felt that privatization would phase out welfare schemes such as providing free electricity to irrigation pumps benefiting the Bhagya Jyothi and Kuteera Jyothi schemes. In addition, those working in electricity supply companies will also lose their jobs. He called on the government not to transfer electricity distribution to private companies.
