Kyle Busch’s son suffers heartbreak in emotional return to racing after father’s stunning death

Racing community mourns the death of Kyle Busch: ‘It’s hard to understand’
Two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch has died suddenly at the age of 41, Fox News reports. The motorsport world is shocked and saddened by his unexpected death. Known for his fierce competitive spirit, Busch leaves a deep legacy in racing that is carried on by his wife, Samantha, and their two children. His colleagues remember him as a skilled driver and a kind individual.
Brexton Busch, the 11-year-old son of late NASCAR driver Kyle Busch, suffered final-lap heartbreak in his return to racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Busch led the majority of Tuesday’s Summer Shootout, but came up short after being passed by Landon Thrasher at the final turn.
This was Brexton’s first race since his father died late last month, just days before he was set to compete in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte.

Busch, 41, died on May 21 after his battle with pneumonia turned into sepsis. The two-time NASCAR champion collapsed during a simulator session on Wednesday of race week and was taken to the hospital. He died the next day.
The entire Busch family, including Brexton, his mother Samantha and sister Lennix, were honored at an emotional pre-race ceremony last month. This was Busches’ last public appearance until last week, when Brexton returned to Charlotte for practice ahead of Tuesday’s race.

Kyle Busch’s father is also the lap leader
First of all, what a solid pass from Landon Thrasher. I had never heard of the boy until last night, but this was a textbook subject.
Yes, it ruined what could have been a great story, but it’s a race. It’s not all ham and eggs on the track, you know. Kyle Busch would be the first to tell us this. I think you’ve said that to Brexton a thousand times.
Looks like Brexton Busch will be just fine racing-wise. The kid can hold the steering wheel of a car and will undoubtedly make it to NASCAR eventually.

In fact, Richard Childress is holding a spot for him when he’s ready. RCR announced last month that Busch’s No. 8 would be permanently suspended unless Brexton wanted to use it if he entered the series.
For those keeping track at home, Brexton can race in the NASCAR Truck Series starting at age 16. He can’t take a lap in a Cup car until he turns 18.

“The No. 8 is reserved and ready for Brexton Busch when he is ready to race in NASCAR,” the team said in a statement.

Brexton has been an up-and-coming racer for some time. In recent years Kyle has spent much of his own racing season following Brexton week in and week out.
Samantha Busch is one of the most active among drivers’ wives on social media and has spent several years documenting life at both the Kyle and Brexton races.
Earlier this year, Brexton competed against his father for the first time in the Tulsa Shootout.
Good things. The Busch Family was clearly born to race.
Kyle was a two-time Cup champion. Kurt Busch won the championship in 2004. It’s clear that Brexton is on the same path. Even Kyle’s father, Tom Busch, 51, led laps this week.
This is true. Take a look at how Tuesday’s race started:

Oh my god. Nothing like a little lift in your heart to start this Wednesday, right?
It’s good to see Brexton Busch behind the wheel again.
