Kyra Sedgwick reveals ancestor signed the Declaration of Independence

Kyra Sedgwick shares why the upcoming 250th anniversary of America’s independence is special to her.
Recently “TodayThe 60-year-old actor revealed that one of his ancestors signed the Declaration of Independence and told his hosts that knowing that “means a lot.”
“I mean, as an American, democracy means a lot to me. The Constitution means a lot to me. And it’s certainly the Declaration of Independence that it’s based on, and I think that’s a great honor and responsibility,” he said. “William Ellery was a long way away then. Yes, he was a lawyer, brilliant. The original authors of that Declaration were quite extraordinary.”
She attended the program to promote her latest movie, “Carolina Caroline,” in which she plays the alcoholic mother of the main character.

KEVIN COSTNER FELT IN SCHOOL BEFORE FINDING HIS PASSION
The “Bachelorettes” star got her start in the entertainment industry as a teenager on the soap opera “Another World” and later appeared in films such as “Kansas,” “Born on the Fourth of July” and “Lemon Sky,” where she met her husband, Kevin Bacon.
After meeting on the movie set, Bacon and Sedgwick began dating, and the actress told People in March 2023 that she fell in love with Bacon after a comment he made while out for dinner one night.
“It was a nice dinner. I opened the menu and said, ‘I can’t believe these prices,’ and the guy instantly fell in love,” she said, adding: “‘Oh my God! This place is really expensive!’ I said.”
The two were together for several years before marrying in September 1988 and have since welcomed two children together: Travis, 36, and Sosie, 34.

In an April 2025 episode of “Last Meals”, Bacon explained why he and Sedgwick chose not to expose their children to fame while they were growing up, saying their children “didn’t sign up” for the lifestyle that comes with being a celebrity.
“When it comes to promoting my own fame, taking my kids to premieres, showing them my movies and showing them an article in the newspaper…we haven’t really done that,” Bacon said. “We really avoided that. I think we felt it would be good for them to have some… we knew how weird this life was.”
Although the couple chose to keep their children out of the spotlight, they chose this path for themselves when they grew up.

Their son is the lead singer of the industrial metal band CONTRACULT Collective, while their daughter followed in her parents’ footsteps and starred in the films “Mare of Easttown”, “13 Reasons Why” and “Smile”. They have also attended red carpet events with their parents over the years.

“I thought, ‘Let them figure it out for themselves. That’s how we parented them. I keep telling them, ‘It must be hard for you. Please tell me. I want to know. Sit down with your therapist, it’s okay,'” she added. “You can be mad at me for this life you have… and they won’t go there. They won’t admit that it’s hard to have one of those things.”
