Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that “the origins of the signs and their placement on national territory are unclear.” They added that the Mexican Division of the International Boundary and Water Commission “will review the maps and instruments marking the border between both countries, determined by existing border and water agreements.”
The incident came after US President Donald Trump said it would be “okay” to launch an attack on Mexico to combat drug trafficking.
He said: “Would I start a strike in Mexico to stop the drugs? That’s fine with me, let’s do whatever we have to do to stop the drugs. Mexico – look, I looked at Mexico City over the weekend. There are some big problems there.”
Trump said he would “not answer” whether he would carry out attacks only with Mexican permission. He added that the country knows “how I stand.”
The US President continued: “We have stopped the waterways, but we know every route. We know every route, we know the address of every drug lord. We know their addresses, we know their front doors. We know everything about each of them. They are killing our people. It’s like a war. Would I do it? I would be proud to do it.”
