Aged Care and Seniors Minister Sam Rae said this morning there were “lessons to be learned” from the antisemitism royal commission and the government would pay close attention to where improvements could be made to keep Australians safe.
Yesterday, the royal commission into antisemitism resumed work and heard from police and security agencies about security and intelligence work linked to attackers who allegedly opened fire on a Jewish festival at Bondi Beach in December, killing 15 people.
The commission heard that NSW Police had not carried out a risk assessment for the festival, despite a domestic terrorism threat being deemed “likely” and Jewish groups expressing fears of attack.
“These are very serious reports coming out of this royal commission… I know the security services will investigate or listen, they clearly agree. There are lessons to be learned.”
