Lady Gabriella Windsor enlists her aristocratic friend to help her move as royal leaves her London flat two years after losing husband

More than two years have passed since Lady Gabriella Windsor lost her husband, Thomas Kingston, by suicide.

Now the Royal is moving on, or at least starting over in a new place after vacating his London flat.

Prince and Princess Michael Kent’s daughter, known for her down-to-earth approach, carried the boxes and furniture to a waiting van after apparently avoiding a moving crew.

The 45-year-old was in good spirits thanks to the help of her friend Lady Eloise Waymouth, daughter of former society photographer Lord Patrick Lichfield.

The couple chatted and smiled as they carried away soft furnishings, an antique chair and a few packing boxes and bags.

They shared a hilarious moment after they were distracted by a Chesil Speedster 2 car whose front seat passenger was a dog wearing driver’s glasses; This sight made them burst into laughter.

Royal, known as Ella to her family and friends, was not wearing her wedding ring during the move.

Mr Kingston (45), financier, died in February 2024. He was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his parents’ £3million Cotswolds home.

Known for her modesty, Lady Gabriella Windsor (pictured) avoided the moving company and instead enlisted the help of a friend to move out of her London flat.

Her aristocrat friend, Lady Eloise Waymouth, daughter of the late society photographer Lord Patrick Lichfield, was dreaming of carrying boxes during the move.

The couple married in May 2019 in a ceremony attended by the Queen and Philip at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

Their wedding was widely regarded as one of the highlights of the 2019 royal calendar.

Mr Kingston, a former hostage negotiator turned financier, was often described by friends as a man of ‘tremendous charm and intelligence’.

In her interviews, Lady Gabriella often expressed how ‘lucky’ she felt to have met ‘someone special’.

The couple’s romance began after they were introduced by mutual friends in 2014.

Mr Kingston was a well-known figure in social circles before marrying into the Royal Family and had previously dated Pippa Middleton, sister of the Princess of Wales.

He eventually proposed to Gabriella during their holiday to the Isle of Sark in 2018, just a year before their high-profile wedding at St George’s Chapel.

After his death, it was reported that he moved in with his family in an apartment in Kensington Palace.

The inquest heard Mr Kingston, who was in charge of an investment firm struggling to pay its £8m debt, suffered the adverse effects of a cocktail of antidepressants and sleeping pills he took in the weeks before he died.

In fact, the true extent of the financial pressure facing Mr Kingston’s investment company, Devonport Capital Limited, has only just emerged.

The firm reportedly had a staggering negative balance of £27.9 million, leaving an eventual deficit of £8.1 million for creditors.

In a desperate attempt to save the company he founded, this successful financier invested £1.6 million of his personal fortune into the business.

Even his father, Martin Kingston, a respected lawyer, owes £162,000, while the biggest creditor, Dubai-based Christopher Chandler, is said to be facing losses of around £3.7 million.

Lady Gabriella, who cried at the hearing, said: ‘Anyone taking such pills needs to be made aware of their side effects to prevent future deaths.

‘If it can happen to Tom, it can happen to anyone.’

Speaking about her late husband’s state of mind, Lady Gabriella reflected on the intersection of his professional and personal struggles.

While he acknowledged the years of work had been a ‘challenge’, he told the coroner: ‘I highly doubt this would have led to him taking his own life and the situation seemed to have improved a lot.’

He added that his choice of his family’s home for his final moments indicated a sudden, impulsive decision rather than a pre-planned action.

The investigation found that Mr Kingston had sought help for work-related stress and insomnia in the months before his death.

He was treated by a GP at Royal Mews Surgery, a private practice at Buckingham Palace often used by royal household staff.

There he was prescribed sertraline, an antidepressant used for anxiety, as well as the sleeping tablet zopiclone.

The hearing was told Mr Kingston had stopped taking medication in the days immediately before the tragedy; a factor the coroner attributed to his “sudden impulse” to take his own life.

Records show he left no will and his entire estate, valued at £660,000, passed to his wife.

The High Court signed off on the letters of administration earlier this year, the Sun reported, officially ending the legal guardianship process more than two years after his death.

While the gross value of her estate was listed as £934,429, the final figure Lady Gabriella inherited was reduced to £664,429 after debts, funeral costs and taxes were paid.
