Landlord who stabbed Palestinian American boy to death dies in prison | Illinois
He was sentenced to decades of imprisonment after attacking a Palestinian American child and his mother died.
Three months ago, Joseph Czuba was sentenced to 53 years of imprisonment behind bars for the attack. In February, he was found guilty of murder, attempted to blame murder and hate in the death of Wadee Alfayoui, and the injury of the child’s mother Hanan Shaheen.
73 -year -old Czuba targeted them in October 2023 in response to the war between Islamic beliefs and Israel and Hamas, which began days ago.
Czuba died on Thursday in custody of the Illinois correction department, referring to the Will County Sheriff Office. Law enforcement officers did not return a call seeking comments about death.
“This immoral killer died, but hate is still alive and good,” said Ahmed Reha, the General Manager of the American-Islamic Relations Council, said on Saturday.
Among the evidence in the trial were the sad statements of Shaheen and his crazy 911, along with bloody criminal photographs and police video. The jury members met less than 90 minutes before making a decision.
The family rented rooms in Czuba’s house in Plainfield, about 40 miles (about 64km) from Chicago when the attack took place.
Shaheen told the jury members that Czuba attacked him before moving to his son, insisting that they had to leave because they were Muslims. Prosecutors also played 911 calls and showed the images of the police. Czuba’s wife Mary, whom he had been divorced since then, testified to prosecute, saying he was anxious about the Israeli-Hamas War that exploded days ago.
After the beginning of the war, Czuba said that Muslims should move to Shaheen because they were not welcome. He then attacked him and his son.
Shaheen said to me: ‘You should die as a Muslim,’ Shaheen said.
Shaheen had more than a dozen knife wound.
Czuba attacked him with a knife before he went after his son in a different room. Police said Czuba had stabbed the child 26 times and left the knife in the child’s body. Some of the bloody crime local photographs were so clear that the judge agreed to turn them away from the audience, including Wadee’s relatives.
The case, which produces headlines around the world, comes in the midst of increasing hostility towards Muslims and Palestinians because Hamas attacked Israel in October 2023, killed about 1,200 Israelis and attacking the Gaza attack that killed more than 48,000 Palestinians.
The attack was particularly harshly shot in Plainfield and its surroundings, which had a large and established Palestinian community. Wadee’s funeral was attracted to big crowds and dedicated a parking area in honor of Plainfield officials.
