Landslides close multiple roads near Mt. Hood National Forest
PORTLAND, ore. (KOIN) — The landslide closed Salmon River Road and Welches Road in Clackamas County, making the Salmon River Trailhead inaccessible and closed to the public, officials said.
Clackamas County officials are asking the public and hikers to avoid the area so crews can work to clear trails.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Forest Service warned that heavy rain and winds earlier this week caused Mt. He said it creates some dangers in the Hood National Forest. Other roads were also closed by landslides, including Hwy 224 east of Lazy Bend, and a second landslide affected the highway further south near Three Lynx. In addition, there was a significant loss of water on Still Creek Road and Hwy 35 was blocked by landslides between Cooper Spur Road and Mt. Still closed between Hood Meadows.
There is no current estimate on when the roads will open. People living in affected areas are encouraged to sign up for county emergency alerts.

The mudslides and road closures follow heavy rains and high winds that impacted areas around Oregon earlier this week. Although the water has receded in the last 24 hours on some roads that were once flooded by rivers, in some nearby areas Clackamas County under evacuation.
