China’s defence minister urges greater unity to avoid ‘law of the jungle’

By Laurie Chen

Beijing (Reuters) -China’s Defense Minister made more efforts for the global unity by warning against a more and more divided world, which was defined by the rule of the forest.

Speaking to officially open the Beijing Xiangshan Security Forum, Dong Jun said that the world has been overshadowed by the thought of Cold War, hegemony and its protectionism – a slap in the United States.

“Foreign military intervention, seeking areas of influence and forcing others to take sides will bring chaos to chaos.” He said.

“A obsession with absolute superiority in military power and the ‘power is true’ approach will lead to a divided world defined by the rule of forest and irregularity.”

China’s official Xinhua News Agency reported that approximately 1,800 representatives from 100 countries, including officials, military personnel and academics, are attending a three -day event.

Most of the Western countries sent a relatively low -level diplomatic representatives to the forum, and some say they are trying to learn more about China’s ongoing military accumulation and opaque military leadership.

Dong’s words follow President Xi Jinping’s latest speeches against “hegemonism and power policies”.

China and the United States and its allies and partners are among the tensions on the glare points in East Asia, including the Taiwan and the South China Sea.
