Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, November 23, 2025, called for a global convention to prevent misuse of artificial intelligence and took a strong step to make critical technologies human-centric rather than finance-centric.

Speaking at the third session of the G20 summit in Johannesburg, Prime Minister Modi also said that technology applications should be ‘global’ rather than ‘national’ and be based on ‘open source’ rather than ‘proprietary models’.

PM Modi said this vision has been integrated into India’s technology ecosystem and this has brought significant benefits, be it in space applications, artificial intelligence or digital payments, where it is a world leader.

He delivered a speech on “A Fair and Just Future for All – Critical Minerals; Decent Work; Artificial Intelligence” at the third session of the G20 Summit.

“We must all ensure that AI is used for global good and its misuse is prevented. To do this, we must create a global convention on AI based on certain fundamental principles, including effective human oversight, security by design, transparency and strict restrictions on the use of AI in deepfakes, criminal and terrorist activities,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister said that artificial intelligence systems that affect human life, security or public trust must be accountable and auditable. “And most importantly, AI should enhance human capabilities, but the ultimate responsibility for decision-making always lies with humans,” he added.

Modi said that in the age of artificial intelligence we are in, the approach must change rapidly from ‘Jobs of Today’ to ‘Talents of the Future’. “Unlocking talent mobility is essential for rapid innovation. We have made progress in this regard at the Delhi G20. We hope that in the next few years, the G20 will develop a global framework for talent mobility,” PM Modi said.
