Lauren Goodger marks daughter Lorena’s ‘heavenly birthday’ four years after the tragic death of her newborn baby

Lauren Goodger heartbreakingly wished her daughter Lorena a ‘heavenly birthday’ in an Instagram post on Wednesday.

The 39-year-old TOWIE star gave birth to her second daughter, Lorena, in July 2022, but sadly she passed away minutes after she was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck.

Lauren and her eldest daughter Larose, who turns five this month, celebrated Lorena’s birthday with balloons and cake.

The television personality split from partner Charles Drury after the tragedy but they have a good co-parenting relationship.

He wrote: ‘Today is my anniversary that will always remain in my heart. Four years ago today I gave birth to my beautiful Lorena. 4. Happy Heavenly Birthday my angel.

‘Your little sister Larose, although she doesn’t quite understand it, thinks it’s part of her birthday in 2 weeks and still helps us celebrate every year by blowing up balloons, lighting candles and eating cake. This is his special method.

‘Thank you to everyone who messaged, commented, called or reached out today. Your love, support, and kind words mean so much more than I can put into words.

‘Thank you @vickidrake_ for arranging a lovely dinner for me and Larose and hosting us..we are forever grateful x

‘I trust that Lorena and Larose will continue to guide me with love and strength every day.

‘You are forever loved, forever missed, and forever a part of us. Happy Heavenly Birthday, my beautiful daughter.’

During an appearance on This Morning on Wednesday, Lauren relived the moment she realized something was terribly wrong during birth.

She had planned to have a natural water birth at her home in Essex, under the care of her midwife Tamzin, who had previously given birth to Larose.

Her waters broke on July 6 and her initial vitals were normal; Lauren was deemed “low risk” after giving birth to her first child without complications.

Further tests were carried out the next day, during which the unborn child’s heartbeat was detected, but when the contractions began on the third day, the heart was no longer beating and Lauren was rushed to hospital.

Lauren said: ‘The contractions hadn’t started yet and I stayed at home because that was the best place to be. I was advised to stay.

‘It’s like a blur because initially everything was pretty calm, then I panicked when I couldn’t find the heartbeat of the midwife I had before. It was a panic.

‘When I finally went into labor the oxygen levels disappeared and I was put into the ambulance. I went to the nearest hospital, they were not waiting for me because it was the nearest hospital.’

After a two-hour labor, more than ten doctors fought desperately to save Lorena by performing chest compressions and administering adrenaline, but to no avail.

Lauren said: ‘Sadly he died due to loss of oxygen.’

The reality star said she was in a ‘flight or fight’ situation in her later years.

She said: ‘My body, everything has changed. I was running or fighting. As a single mother, I made it happen. I hope I can make my daughter proud.’
