Law firms shift lens as clients look to skip litigation, beef up compliance

Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas has almost doubled its securities advisory team to around 15 professionals over the past few years. Around three lawyers in this team also represent entities in Sebi and Securities Appellate Tribunal (SAT) related matters.
A lawyer from a Mumbai-based law firm said that law firms are moving some of their litigation lawyers into advisory services teams as ‘assistant’.
“Many clients are undertaking proactive health checks to ensure compliance with Sebi norms. Our advisory team has expanded in the last two years. As clients seeking consultancy services have increased, the number of employees in security regulatory advisory teams has also increased,” said Moin Ladha, partner, Khaitan & Co. Of course, Moin Ladha, partner at Khaitan & Co, has not seen a slowdown in litigation matters.
