Leeds agree £34.1m fee for defender Tarik Muharemovic
Leeds United Italian club Sassuolo agreed a deal for defender Tarik Muharemovic for a fee of £34.1 million.
The 23-year-old centre-back has yet to agree personal terms or complete a medical; Other Premier League clubs were also interested.
If the Bosnia and Herzegovina international opts for Elland Road, he would become Daniel Farke’s second signing of the summer, following the free transfer of attacker Harry Wilson from Fulham.
He will be a direct replacement for Pascal Struijk, who joined Brighton for £20 million in June.
Muharemovic played three times for Bosnia and Herzegovina at the World Cup, including in the last 32 defeat of the hosts USA.
In that match, he was fouled by Folarin Balogun and the US striker was sent off, but his suspension was later rescinded by FIFA following intervention by US President Donald Trump and White House officials.
Born in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, Muharemovic started his career in Austrian football and made his debut for Wolfsberger in 2021.
After a successful loan period in which he could not play for Italian giants Juventus and could not play in the first team, he was sold to Sassuolo in 2025.
Juventus will reportedly receive 50% of the fee due to a clause included in the defender’s sale last summer.
