Left Parties Seek Withdrawal Of PD Act Against Farmers’ Leader

: Ten Left parties on Thursday demanded immediate withdrawal of the Preventive Detention (PD) Act imposed on Anakapalli district farmers’ association secretary and CPM district committee member M. Appalaraju, terming the action arbitrary and illegal. They also asked for his unconditional release.
In a joint statement, the parties said Appalaraju was falsely accused of suppressing democratic protests against land acquisition and livelihood-related projects. They stated that the custody order includes 19 cases registered between May 2013 and December 10, 2025, of which two resulted in acquittal, 12 were closed and four were under investigation, mostly under Section 151 of the CrPC.
The parties alleged that the PD Act was being misused to intimidate people’s movements, stating that Appalaraju supported farmers, agricultural labourers, fishermen, Dalits and tribal families.
They called on citizens and democratic organizations to oppose the arrest and put pressure on the government to repeal the PD Law.
YSRC alleges violation of Chandrababu Naidu’s right to bail
: YSR Congress on Thursday accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of violating bail conditions for allegedly directing agencies to close several criminal cases against him and said it would pursue the matter to the Supreme Court. Addressing the media, YSRC general secretary and former additional solicitor general Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy alleged that Naidu misused the police and investigative agencies to ensure closure of cases due to “factual error”. He claimed that this amounted to interference in the judicial process.
Sudhakar Reddy reminded that Naidu was in jail for 53 days in the Skill Development Corporation case related to the alleged Rs 371 crore fraud, but the case was closed despite the quash petition pending before the top court.
He also alleged that cases related to the Inner Ring Road, allotted lands and liquor were also closed under pressure and said the YSRC would seek a judicial review to ensure accountability.
