Leicester uni fatal stabbing victim named in heartbreaking tributes | UK | News

The student who was the victim of a fatal stabbing that sent shockwaves through Leicester on Tuesday has been named in a tribute left at the scene. People have been paying their respects and leaving touching tributes since the killing of a De Montfort University (DMU) student in his 20s earlier this week.
The victim’s name was remembered as Khaleed at a memorial service held at the scene on Wednesday. One read: “Khaleed and his family. I’m so sorry your life was taken away from you so quickly. My thoughts are with your family and friends.” Flowers were also left on Oxford Street outside the university’s Innovation Centre.
Katie Normington, DMU’s vice-chancellor, said on Wednesday: “We are devastated by the tragic death of one of our students. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by what has happened.
“We are offering direct support to students, staff and the victim’s family. We are working with Leicestershire Police as they investigate this tragic incident.”
Police said an 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody.
Investigators believe the victim was involved in a street fight with another man who fled before police arrived.
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Lorna Granville said: “We are now piecing together exactly what happened at the corner of Oxford Street and Bonners Lane, where two men were reportedly involved in the shooting.
“CCTV from the area is currently being reviewed and officers are speaking to potential witnesses to assist our investigation. “We know many people came to the victim’s aid before emergency services arrived and we would like to thank them for their assistance.
“If you are one of these people and have not yet spoken to the police, please contact us.”
