Lightning wear Bucs uniforms, Bruins dress as Patriots for outdoor game

The Boston Bruins were hosted by the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday night, not in the usual Amalie Arena fashion, but at Raymond James Stadium, home of the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Before hitting the ice outdoors on a bitterly cold Tampa night, Lightning players were seen exiting the bus wearing vintage “Creamsicle” Bucs jerseys.
Pads, helmets and all.

Fans cheered as the players, their numbers and last names printed on the backs of bright orange jerseys, headed into the stadium for their game against the Bruins.
It’s a far cry from the regular blue, black and white jerseys Lightning players are used to, but these nostalgic jerseys are a staple in the Tampa area. Even though the Bucs were synonymous with losing when the franchise first started in 1976, they still wear them occasionally today.

The Bucs were an expansion team and stood out with their uniform color choices. However, in their second season they managed a massive 0-26 before coming away victorious.
It wasn’t just the Lightning players that fans were cheering on. Leading the pack were Bucs stars quarterback Baker Mayfield and left tackle Tristan Wirfs, wearing the true blue sweaters the hockey team will wear on the ice at Raymond James Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Bruins also had a football theme, considering the only other NFL team in New England would be heading to the Super Bowl in a week.
With the Patriots returning to the “Big Game,” the Bruins emerged from the bus in full Patriots attire, looking like our founding fathers.
While the NHL and its teams are having fun with this Stadium Series game, both of these teams are coming into the contest hot.
The Bruins and Lightning have an 8-1-1 record over the last 10 games, while the Lightning have the Eastern Conference’s best record at 34-14-4. The Bruins are not far behind with 32-20-3.

Finally, outdoor hockey is generally conducive in Florida, but the NHL will actually need a heater to get the ice up to the proper temperature, as it was an unusual 40 degrees on Sunday night.
