Like it or not, this is Christopher Nolan’s Odyssey, not Homer’s

Christopher Nolan is a filmmaker busy expanding and fragmenting time, creating puzzles and mazes and filling them with doubles, projections and unreliable narrators.

His films often center on men adrift and surrounded by unreliable guides – they are always men. Men whose only solid beliefs are their mourning and memories, and who are themselves driven by a desire to return to a situation that may be illusory.

Memory (2000) follows Leonard, whose journey to avenge his dead wife is made nearly impossible by his memory loss, turning every apparent ally into a possible enemy.
