Saif Ali Khan Teams Up with Pratik Gandhi in Upcoming Film ‘Hum Hindustani’
Mumbai: Saif Ali Khan, star of Netflix’s first original “Sacred Games,” said it was great to return to the streamer with “Hum Hindustani,” a period drama about a team of officials battling chaos, resistance and impossible odds to hold India’s first elections. In the movie inspired by real events, directed by Rahul Dholakia, known for his films “Parzania” and “Raees”, Pratik Gandhi also plays the role of a police officer. Produced by Emmay Entertainment, the film is produced by Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani and Nikkhil Advani.
“Honestly, it feels like being at home because Netflix and I started out together 10 years ago… ‘Sacred Games’ was amazing. And I think it always represented high quality. And the people we worked with, even during production, made sure we made a great, good-looking, very interesting product every time.”
“And this time, getting the chance to make a film like this, to work with Pratik, our production was incredible. We tackled a topic about how India became the largest democracy in the world,” Saif said at the Next on Netflix event.
Pratik, who was last seen on the streamer in “Saare Jahan Se Achha”, said it was a great feeling to work in different genres.
Pratik said, “When you have compelling stories, smart script, brilliant directors and talented actors, you have to step up your game and a platform that gives you the freedom to experiment, the least the actor can do is to experiment fearlessly and the result will be that people will love and applaud him. This encourages us to experiment more. Speaking of democracy, this is the best film imaginable.” he added.
The film also stars Deepak Dobrial, Mimi Chakraborty, Sarika and Shraddha Danger.
Saif also shared with the publisher the details about his second movie called “Kartavya”, which he said had just completed shooting.
“We have just finished making a film called ‘Kartavya’, which is really great… Shah Rukh’s company Red Chilies has produced this film and it will be released soon. It is a really lovely work by a director called Pulkit,” he said.
“Kartavya”, also starring Rasika Duggal, is a mystery thriller. When a journalist is killed while exposing a revered godman, the SHO of a small town in western Uttar Pradesh becomes a criminal and must decide whether his duty is to the law, his family, or the truth.
