Lindsey Vonn reveals staggering detail of recovery from broken leg as she finally returns home to US after Winter Olympics crash

Lindsey Vonn has revealed that she has not been able to stand on her own feet for more than a week after undergoing four surgeries following the devastating leg break she suffered at the Winter Olympics.
The 41-year-old American ski legend suffered a complex tibia fracture before being airlifted to hospital following the horrific crash at the Milan-Cortina Games earlier this month.
Severe damage to Vonn’s leg forced her to undergo multiple surgeries in Italy before returning to the United States after being released from the hospital on Sunday; Another surgery will probably follow.
One knee specialist has even warned in the past that some similar injuries have required amputation.
Vonn, who was very happy to return home, explained that she still could not stand up since the accident in Cortina.
‘I haven’t been able to stand on my feet for over a week… I’ve been immobile in a hospital bed since my race. “Although I can’t stand it yet, it feels great to be back on home soil,” the former Olympic champion wrote.

‘Thank you so much to everyone in Italy for taking good care of me’.
Vonn, who was competing in the women’s downhill race with an anterior cruciate ligament tear, lost control on the opening cross after cutting the line too tightly and flipped in the air.
After the crash, she was heard screaming as she was surrounded by medical staff before being strapped to a stretcher and flown away in a helicopter.
Despite the severity of her injury, Vonn defiantly suggested last week that she would one day hit the ski slopes again.
While the iconic skier may have meant it strictly for fun rather than trying to compete at the highest level once again, he said: ‘Please don’t be upset. The journey was worth the fall. When I close my eyes at night, I have no regrets and my love for skiing continues.
‘I still look forward to the moment when I can stand on the mountaintop once again. And I will.’
He also stated that the fourth surgery he had on his leg was successful and said, ‘The surgery went well today! Thank goodness I can finally return to the USA!
‘I will give you more updates and information regarding my injury when I return…. But until then, as I sit on my bed thinking, I have a few thoughts I’d like to share…’
Vonn hinted last week that she would return to skiing one day, despite the severity of her injury.
Vonn later insisted that she didn’t want people to feel sorry for her after suffering such a horrific leg break.
‘I’ve read a lot of messages and comments saying they were upset about what happened to me. “Please don’t be upset,” he said. ‘I wholeheartedly welcome empathy, love and support, but please do not express sadness or sympathy.
‘I hope instead it gives you the strength to keep fighting, because that’s what I’m doing and will continue to do. Always.
‘When I think back to my accident, I didn’t stand at the starting gate unaware of the possible consequences. I knew what I was doing. I chose to take risks. Every skier at the starting gate took the same risk.
‘Because even if you are the most powerful person in the world, the cards are always in the mountain’s hand.’
