London local elections 2026: Live results map for every mayoralty and council

While Reform UK and the Green Party have made big gains in Labour’s traditional heartlands, Labor is facing big losses in local councils in London.

Green Party’s Zoë Garbett is elected mayor of Hackney, in a major blow to Labor; Zack Polanski’s party also won the mayoral seats in Lewisham and Waltham Forests. Lambeth, Labour’s previous stronghold, failed to achieve overall control as the Green Party now holds the most seats in the borough.

The Conservatives took back control of Westminster City Council from Labor and also retained Kensington, Chelsea and Bexley, which had been a target of Reform UK.

Results from local elections in England show Nigel Farage’s Reform UK won hundreds of councilors across the country and took seats from Labor on dozens of councils.

Tower Hamlets, Lewisham and Croydon are yet to announce results.

Here’s an overview of the results in London so far from the four councils:

In her victory speech, Ms Garbett criticized the “failed Labor government” and said the borough “rejects hatred and division”.

he said Independent Following his victory, Zack Polanski declared that two-party politics was “dead and buried” as he said voters “showed that they really want this alternative” to the traditional parties.

Mr Farage announced Havering had been placed under “new management” after his party passed the 28-seat threshold to take overall control of the council.

The Conservative Party also became Wandsworth’s largest party and did not retain overall control from being dominated by the Labor Party.

Kemi Badenoch’s party also managed to retain control of Hillingdon, Harrow and Bromley.

But Labor’s grip on the city remained firm elsewhere. Sir Keir Starmer’s party maintained a presence in Hammersmith and Fulham, Ealing, Hounslow, Barking and Dagenham, Camden, Islington, Greenwich.

There was also a narrow win in Merton, which pollsters suggested could go to the Liberal Democrats.

The Liberal Democrats retained Sutton, Richmond-upon-Thames and Kingston-upon-Thames.

The final result is expected to be Tower Hamlets at 18:00 on Saturday.

The capital has been seen as a Labor Party stronghold in recent years; The party held majority control in 21 councils. But in the four years since the 2022 London election, the political landscape has changed dramatically.

Sir Keir Starmer’s Labor Party’s popularity has waned since it came to power in 2024; Surveys of younger, more left-leaning voters suggest that this dynamic benefits the Green Party the most.

The party led by Zack Polanski hopes to increase its number of councilors in the capital, having only 49 seats heading into the elections. YouGov’s pre-election polling suggested this number could rise rapidly and Reform could take the highest share of the three councils. No party has ever won a London council poll before.

The results of the mayoral elections held so far are as follows:

Competitions were held in 136 local authorities across the country, including some of the largest cities and the whole of London. A mix of urban authorities and rural districts, as well as various provincial councils, also held elections.

This is the biggest local election in the UK in three years and an important test for all political parties.

Of the 5,013 seats contested this year, Labor is defending 2,557, the Conservatives are defending 1,362, the Liberal Democrats are defending 684 and other parties (including independents) are defending 410.
