The fire service says: “Fifteen fire engines and around 100 firefighters are battling a blaze at a recycling center on Landmann Way in Bermondsey.

“Due to the heavy smoke in the area, residents are advised to keep their windows and doors closed.

“Two of the Brigade’s 32-metre spiral staircases were deployed to the scene to assist in fighting the fire from above.

“Control Officers received the first of several calls at 5.32pm and mobilized crews from Deptford, Old Kent Road, Greenwich and surrounding fire stations to the scene.”
