London Underground staff to walkout over pay

The RMT Union announced that a strike action will be held through the London underground (LU), which started on Friday, September 5 for seven days.

The union claimed that transport bosses refused to interact on a decrease in wages, fatigue management, excessive shift models and a decrease in working week.

RMT Secretary General Eddie DEMPSEY said: “Fatigue and excessive shift rotations are serious issues affecting the health and prosperity of our members who have not been dealt with for years by LU management.”

For the London (TFL) spokesperson, a transportation said: “We call on RMT to put our members fair, affordable fee offers and continue to interact with us.”

On Thursday, RMT accused of a “despising approach” and added that it “fueled widespread anger and insecurity between labor force”.

Personnel in different classes, as part of the rolling strike action will take industrial action at different times, he said.

TFL’s spokesman said: “We meet with our unions regularly to discuss the concerns they might be, and recently we met RMT to discuss some certain points.

“We are determined to ensure that our colleagues are treated fairly and we offer a wage increase of 3.4% in our ongoing wage debates, we have made progress in a series of commitments we have made before.

He said: “We welcome more participation in the London Metro with our unions with our unions, but a decrease in the working week due to the 35 -hour contract is neither practical nor appropriate.”

In a separate dispute on wages and conditions, Docklands light railway workers will also be striking in this period since September 7.

“RMT will continue to participate in the LU administration to seek a revised proposal to reach an negotiated agreement.”
