Longtime Florida restaurant closing after 23 years

Mulligan’s Beach House in Jensen Beach has announced it is abruptly closing after 23 years and plans to serve its last customers on Easter Sunday, April 5.
“We made this decision for cost reasons, not business reasons, and it is time to move on,” the restaurant said in a Facebook post on April 4. “I can find another place in Martin County, or I can drive off into the sunset and enjoy the rest of my life.”

Post said he has been working to pay “exorbitant rent” to the restaurant’s landlord for the past several years.
“We absolutely cannot afford to pay the rent anymore. We tried to find a buyer for six months, but everyone was thinking the same thing about the high rent,” the post said. it said. “Our business is strong – it has been for 23 years – but it is not strong enough to cover these expenses.”
Mulligan’s locations in Vero Beach and Sebastian will not be affected by the closure, according to the post. Jensen Beach staff were offered the option to work at Indian River County locations, and most accepted the offer, the post said.
The restaurant’s last day in Jensen Beach is scheduled for Easter Sunday.
