Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport issued an alert on Saturday due to low visibility caused by dense fog affecting flight operations. The warning text included the following statements: “According to the India Meteorological Department, dense morning fog will continue tomorrow, resulting in reduced visibility at Delhi airport. Some flight operations may be affected.”

Additionally, Airport officials stated that security measures have been taken for Republic Day and urged “passengers to plan extra travel time for a hassle-free travel experience.” They assured that the ground crew will closely monitor and support passengers in all terminals.

Meanwhile, Delhi’s airport flight operations will also be affected due to the closure of 11R/29L, one of its main runways. This closure is expected to occur from mid-February to June due to major improvements. Improvements include improving the Instrument Landing System (ILS) to CAT III-B standards and installing a new rapid exit taxiway (RET). The closure was planned in conjunction with the Ministry of Civil Aviation and other stakeholders to minimize disruptions. Since there are four runways at the airport, flights will be managed using the other three runways.

IMD warns of dense morning fog in Delhi-NCR

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for January 18 as Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) brace for another cold and foggy day. According to the forecast, the sky will be partly cloudy on Sunday, fog will prevail in the morning, and conditions will improve in the later hours. Moderate to heavy fog is expected in areas like North West Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi and NCR regions including Faridabad, Gurugram, Noida and Ghaziabad, affecting visibility and daily travel. Citizens are asked to be careful, especially in the morning hours.
