Lowe Family Wine Co, Mudgee
Shiraz is a signature of the Mudgee region, but few wineries ferment their own wine in 600-litre clay amphorae underground. At Lowe Family Wine Co, the organic and biodynamic estate run by David Lowe and Kim Currie that is also behind Zin Food + Wine House and Althea by Zin, shiraz is supported in every form, from the classic French oak expression, to preservative-free and amphora versions, to a sparkling shiraz and even a port-style fortified version.
The broader range is heading further afield, with wines such as the coral-pink Zinfandel rosé and new regional Italian whites such as arneis and aleatico. Visitors can book a tasting of eight wines at the cellar door before heading next door to Zin Food + Wine House for lunch. There is also a small food shop where you can buy supplies, or you can pre-order a picnic basket to enjoy on the grass.
